PACHAMANCA IN PIURAY – MARAS MORAY

Piuray is a beautiful lake located in the Community of Pongobamba, in the district of Chinchero. Piuray is known by its bird watching diversity, from endemic kind of birds to many types of Andean ducks. You will enjoy outstanding scenery of the surrounding hills with farm terraces and forests and great views of the Sacred Valley snow-capped mountain.

“Pachamanca” meaning in Quechua “Earth Pot” is a traditional cooking technique based on the stewing by rock heat, which are previously heated. The main idea is to cook ingredients with this heat underground, using Andean grass to separate ingredients from rocks and soil. The main ingredients are lamb, chicken, pork and guinea pig previously marinated with Andean spices, also different sorts of potatoes, corn and Andean aromatic herbs which give a unique flavor to this exotic dish. You will have the chance to participate in the preparation of a traditional Pachamanca and learn the ancient techniques used for centuries by Andean people to create this unique way of cooking.

TOUR DESCRIPTION

We will pick the clients up from their hotel and drive to Moray the experimental center of agriculture, then you will see the salt mines which have been in use since pre inca times. after to enjoy and explore those place, we will go to piuray, unique place with the beautiful lake, where Pachamanca will be opened and dishes will be served. After lunch, will have time to enjoy the landscape and Piuray lagoon. Finally passengers will be transfered back to their hotel in Cusco or Sacred valley.
